The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) hosted a workshop in collaboration with the Modern Energy Cooking Services (MECS) Programme on December 12, 2023, at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi. The discussion during the event, entitled “Engaging States to Scale-up eCooking,” focused on the scaling up of electric cooking technologies, including Induction Cookstoves, Electric Pressure Cookers, Rice Cookers, and On/Off-grid Solar Cooking solutions to facilitate transition to eCooking and the pivotal role of State agencies in facilitating the transition. In his pre-recorded video message Dr. Simon Batchelor of MECS highlighted the emerging opportunity to transition millions to electric cooking with wider availability of electricity in India and the world. Mr Milind Deore of BEE, speaking on the occasion, underscored the significance of State Designated Agencies (SDAs) and initiatives like the “Go electric” campaign launched by Ministry of Power. Mr Vishal Kapoor, CEO of EESL, discussed the feasibility of scaling up eCooking using renewable energy and carbon credits. The event also featured live demonstrations of eCooking devices, showcasing current technology and fostering discussions on necessary innovations.
