The State of Access to Modern Energy Cooking Services report was launched by ESMAP, World Bank Group, Clean Cooking Alliance, Loughborough University and MECS at a high-level virtual event during Climate Week NYC on 24th September 2020. The presentation can be accessed here and the recording of the high-level virtual launch event below:
The report provides an in-depth, comprehensive understanding of households’ cooking-energy needs with a new framework of measurement and a new set of estimates, and recommends pathways to accelerate access to modern cooking, a key component of SDG7.
In addition to the report, ESMAP have also released a database on players and initiatives and an interactive map of studies on modern energy cooking systems and initiatives. They are also developing a modern cooking energy planning tool to capitalize on the datasets to help countries make better informed decisions as part of their energy sector strategies.
