Launched in September 2020, the State of Access to Modern Energy Cooking Services Report, provides an in-depth, comprehensive understanding of household cooking-energy needs which informs critical solutions and recommends pathways to accelerate access to modern cooking. The report uses several new and constructed global datasets to improve our understanding of the sector. On the demand side, the report analyzes data from the Multi-Tier Framework (MTF) household surveys to understand access levels and household behavior and demand for cooking energy services. To understand better the development impacts, the report estimates the cost of inaction on health, climate and gender, and proposes transition pathways to greater access. The cost of transition is modelled for two 2030 universal access scenarios – access to Modern Energy Cooking Services, where all households move to Tiers 4 or above, and access to Improved Cooking Solutions, where households in Tiers 0 and 1 move to Tiers 2 or 3.
The report also builds on systematic review of studies on modern energy cooking systems and initiatives and maps out the main players on the supply side and various initiatives by geographic location with online tools available.
The webinar will dive in the data used and generated from the study and discuss the opportunities for using the data for policy dialogue, program design, and future research.
