Rihab Khalid

Dr Rihab Khalid is a Research Associate with the MECS programme, focusing on socio-spatial justice in the clean cooking transition across urban and displacement settings in Africa and Asia. Employing feminist, intersectional, and decolonial approaches, her research aims to transform urban energy narratives, promoting gender equity and inclusion for equitable and sustainable energy transitions. Dr. Khalid holds a PhD in Architecture from the University of Cambridge, where she also completed a three-year post-doctoral fellowship. She has received multiple research grants and has collaborated with international organisations like UK Energy Research Centre (UKERC), the UK’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), UNDP (Asia and Pacific), the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), Jordan Green Building Council, Energy Cities, SSH Centre EU, and Women in Energy Pakistan. She has previously served as the Director of Studies in Architecture at Clare College, Cambridge, as a gender and climate specialist for the UNDP (Asia and the Pacific), and as a climate social scientist for the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit UK. She is also currently an Associate Editor at the Buildings and Cities journal, and a Visiting Fellow at the Global Sustainability Institute, Anglia Ruskin University, UK.
