MECS is delighted to announce that the Nepal eCookbook, authored by the People, Energy & Environment Development Association (PEEDA) and contributing partners, has been selected for the best free food publications of 2022 in Asia by the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards. The Gourmand World Cookbook Awards, founded in 1995 by Edouard Cointreau, honour the best food and wine books, printed or digitally, on an annual basis.
The Nepal eCookbook aims to increase awareness of the benefits that e-cooking (cooking with electricity) would provide to households in Nepal. The eCookBook assesses various cookstoves and fuels used in Nepal, presents results from Controlled Cooking Tests completed using modern and traditional cookstoves, and showcases recipes to prepare common Nepalese food using the electric pressure cooker, such as rice, daal and meat. The publication forms part of the MECS eCookbook series, which measure the energy, time and cost savings of cooking traditional dishes using energy efficient electric appliances. They package and present complex findings around energy and cooking in a digestible and accessible way so households, utility companies and policy-makers can make better informed decisions around fuels and appliances for cooking. Commenting on the nomination, Biraj Gautam, CEO of PEEDA states “The eCookbook was thought for the practitioners and users within the country. This award is evidence of the high regard which has motivated us to do more”.
