Modern Energy Cooking Services (MECS) through in-country partner Finovista collaborated with the National Association of Street Food Vendors of India (NASVI) for the 13th National Street Food Festival 2023, held in Delhi from 29-31 December 2023. MECS in India supported 25 eCooking stalls in the eCooking Zone where various street foods were prepared using energy-efficient eCooking devices. Under this, MECS conducted eCooking training and capacity building of 80 street food vendors, with in-depth training of 25 vendors. The training also included cookery demonstrations using eCooking devices such as the electric pressure cooker and induction cookstoves. The street food vendors then practically applied the training over the remainder of the festival under the banner of eCooking Fun.

Mr Vimal Kumar, India Lead, MECS, and Co-founder, Finovista, was a panelist in a panel discussion on the topic of Decarbonising Streets. The discussion stressed the challenges faced by street food vendors in terms of safety, convenience, and cost efficiency of the fuels and well as the devices used for cooking. MECS in India also conducted a feedback survey involving 25 vendors and consumers, yielding intriguing insights for analysis. An eCooking competition was organised among street food vendors, with 19 participants equipped with energy meters to measure consumption. The competition results were based on the tastiest food prepared with the least energy usage. Participants received certificates of participation, while winners were awarded Certificates of Appreciation. The food was judged by Mr. Anubhav, an influential YouTuber and renowned food vlogger from Delhi Food Walks.
