Webinar Announcement: “Recipe for Success” , Registration now open!

Date
10th October 2023

Registration is now open to join our upcoming webinar “Recipe for Success“, organised by Modern Energy Cooking Services (MECS) programme, in collaboration with Acumen and the GET.invest, to be held on Thursday 19th of October 2023, at 13.00-14.15 UK time (BST).

The “Recipe for Success” webinar will bring together key actors to discuss the financing that can deliver universal access to modern energy cooking. It will build upon the findings from the Acumen report – “Recipe for Success: Lessons from Acumen’s Cookstove Investments”.

Background:

For Acumen, the clean cookstove sector has been not only one of its most impactful, but actually its most profitable investment sector. The “Recipe for Success” report outlines key lessons they have learned from their investments and the importance of patient capital to growing impactful companies.

However, despite these impressive results, additional capital has not followed into the sector at the scale needed, especially in the form of patient equity.

During the webinar Dan Waldron, Head of Insights at Acumen, will discuss their analysis of the challenges faced by cooking companies and the factors that enabled companies to sell a quality product at an affordable price. He will also outline some of the difficulties companies face in attracting funding, while highlighting the excellent opportunities available for successful impact investment.

Daphne Pit, Africa Coordinator at the GET.invest Finance Catalyst, will describe some of the requirements that funders may have in making investments as well as the advisory support available from the GET.invest Finance Catalyst. GET.invest is a European programme that mobilizes investment in renewable energy, supported by the European Union, Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands and Austria.

The presentations will be followed by a frank panel discussion between cooking entrepreneurs, development finance institutions, and institutional funders. The discussion will explore opportunities to promote the availability of capital, especially in the form of patient equity.
