The solar cooking project, jointly financial supported by Modern Energy Cooking Services (MECS), UK and Energising Development (EnDev), was implemented by UIU in 2021. The project is running in 3 commercial institutions and 3 households. In this project, a low-cost cooking method was developed using an inverter free technique to incorporate both solar PV and power grid. On one hand, this reduces the cooking energy costs and on the other hand it accelerates the use of renewable energy. For a family of 5 members, the cost of cooking in this way will be approximately BDT 500-600, which is cheaper than the cost of firewood or gas cylinders and at the same time cleaner & safer.

Munira Sultana, ndc, Chairman, SREDA, Mr. Alamgir Morshed, Executive Director and CEO, IDCOL, Prof. Dr. Md. Abul Kashem Mia, Vice-Chancellor (In-Charge) of UIU, Mr Habib Iftikher Alam, Executive Director, Head of R&I, Walton Hi-Tech Industries Lte., Faculty members, officials, academicians, government officials, researchers and other distinguished guests from various universities and institutions in Bangladesh were present in the program.
