Heading to COP31: Putting Electric Cooking on the Climate Action Agenda

Date
4th November 2026
Categories
COP31

With COP31 set to take place in Antalya, Türkiye from 9-20 November 2026, MECS is looking forward to joining global leaders, policymakers, practitioners, and partners to help shape the future of climate action at this urgent and critical point with global warming set to exceed the critical 1.5°C limit above pre-industrial levels.

Prof. Ed Brown, Research Director of the UK aid (FCDO) funded MECS programme, and Alicia Butterfield, Global Manager of GeCCo – Global Electric Cooking Coalition, will be attending the conference and championing the role of clean, electric cooking in delivering sustainable, equitable, and scalable energy solutions.

As electrification has been identified as one of the COP31 Presidency’s priority areas, this year’s discussions provide a valuable opportunity for MECS to highlight how expanding access to electric cooking can contribute to climate mitigation, improved health outcomes, energy access, and sustainable development.

Reflecting on this year’s COP, Ed Brown commented:

“One of our key messages that will be central to this year’s COP is the role of accelerating electrification in combatting climate change. The COP31 Presidency of Türkiye announced a flagship target to increase the global electrification rate to 35% by 2035. We are positioning MECS work in advancing electric cooking within this context, highlighting our ongoing effort to accelerate the global adoption of electric cooking“.

We are excited to connect with existing partners, meet new collaborators, engage with investors, researchers, and industry stakeholders to share evidence and to explore innovative ways to accelerate the global transition to eCooking.

If you are attending COP31, we look forward to meeting you and discussing how we can work together to scale access to clean, electric cooking around the world.
