MECS Programme aims to identify which features of eCooking appliances are most valued by users so they can be prioritised in product development and service offerings. To achieve this, MECS is commissioning market research through discrete choice modelling (DCM), also known as discrete choice experiment or conjoint analysis.
MECS is seeking a consultant/s/organisation with a strong track record in quantitative research to undertake a DCM study with existing eCooking appliance users.
The work must be conducted in Ghana, Kenya, Nepal, Uganda, or Tanzania. Up to four studies will be contracted across this country range.
Participants must be the primary household cook and a user of at least one of the following eCooking appliances: Electric Pressure Cooker (EPC), induction cooktop, rice cooker, infrared cooktop, air fryer, or multi-cooker. It is recommended that the study include 200 participants, representing a range of income levels and geographic areas within a given country.
The total budget is a maximum of £10,000 (including any locally payable VAT, taxes, and charges). Payment is contingent on successful completion of all deliverables.
The research is expected to commence no later than 1st September 2025. All deliverables must be completed and delivered no later than 15th December 2025. The consultant/organisation should demonstrate in their response to these ToRs how the work can be completed within the time available.
The University will accept the quotation which is the best value for money i.e. a balance between cost and quality. Shortlisted organisations may be invited to an interview (online) to finalise selection.
Responses should be a maximum of 12 pages (plus up to 3 CVs, 2 pages each). Responses over this length will not be assessed.

The time will be determined using the time of arrival in the MECS inbox. Any offers received after 23:55 will be rejected.
