A visual journey of how access to energy influences daily life, dignity and opportunity has been launched by Prabhat Education Foundation. The 15-minute video highlights stories from the ground from a two-year MECS-funded research study by Prabhat Education Foundation which explored the relationship between access to energy and disability.
Twenty participants, representing a range of income levels, disabilities and age groups, were selected to take part in the cooking diaries research element of the study. The participants’ cooking experiences were documented via a dedicated WhatsApp group for research participants, alongside diary writing and the conducting of audio and video interviews.
Upon discussing cooking with electricity, Shaheen Parveen, research participant, commented “We have a group of friends, and we share everything with each other. We make videos of any new recipe we have tried and we share the videos with each other which helps all of us to learn new recipes. This group’s advantage is to talk and share with each other. Through this study, we could form this group, which is helping us. Now I don’t have to wait for the gas cylinder, or wait for anyone to come and help me. This electric cooking is cost effective also, we save gas cylinder cost and the electricity bill is not impacted very much. There’s nothing to worry.”
