Registration is now open to join our upcoming webinar “What happens when your cooker no longer works: a dive into the afterlife of domestic electric items“, organised by Modern Energy Cooking Services (MECS) programme, and hosted in collaboration with leading consultants at CLASP, Doko Recyclers, Rural Senses, and Qualiquant, to be held on Wednesday 2 August 2023, 10:30-11:45 (British Summer Time).

Webinar background

With the forecast increase in the adoption of eCooking, a wide range of electric cooking devices are more accessible and affordable to people in low- and middle-income countries. One consequence of the increase in purchase and use of these devices is the generation of eWaste, which is already a major global issue and set to increase exponentially with the move to cleaner energy use and digitalisation. To address this challenge, the Modern Energy Cooking Services (MECS) Programme at Loughborough University, has teamed up with some leading consultants and has supported them in conducting research to explore the end-of-life (EoL) ecosystem of electric cooking appliances and existing eWaste management systems in five countries in Africa and Asia. During the Webinar, consultants at CLASP, Doko Recyclers, Rural Senses, and Qualiquant, will present findings from their reports on EoL of electric cooking devices. This will be followed by a Q&A session where they will offer their perspectives and share their knowledge on the subject.
