Invitation to tender: Services to Manage a Trust Fund to support eCooking companies delivering efficient electric appliances through a government supported results-oriented project or programme.

Date
14th February 2025

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD), Government of Uganda, and Loughborough University through the MECS Programme are collaborating to scale up Electric Cooking (eCooking) interventions in Uganda, under a new programme.

Through the activities outlined in this tender the aim is to increase the availability and choice of eCooking appliances in Uganda, strengthening the supply chain, diversifying the market, supporting customers with access to affordable appliances.

The broad objective of the assignment is to establish a Trust Fund to provide bridging capital/short-term working capital loans to businesses engaged with a government-approved financial support project or program (e.g. EASP, PSFU, UBEP), where the business is supplying high-quality eCooking appliances. The Fund will seek to fill a specific funding gap and provide short-term bridging financing to support businesses to buy new inventory/fulfill a local purchase order (LPO) and ensure continuous supply of eCooking appliances on the market, enabling the smooth running of various government initiatives to promote eCooking.

The tender is open to any suitably qualified organisation from Uganda or the East Africa Region. The source of funding for this work is overseas aid funding from the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Organisation – Uganda. Preference will therefore be given to organisations with registered offices in Uganda.
